Are you looking for a placement year that offers meaningful experience, real responsibility and the opportunity to develop the skills needed for a successful career in communications?

Lighthouse Communications is now recruiting a Placement Student to join our team for the 2027/2028 academic year.

As an integrated communications consultancy, we work with a diverse portfolio of local and international clients, providing strategic advice to senior business leaders and delivering marketing communications campaigns that influence audiences, build reputations and drive results.

For students considering a future in public relations, marketing, or communications, this placement offers a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience of agency life while working alongside experienced communications professionals.

More than just a placement

At Lighthouse Communications, our Placement Students become valued members of the team from day one.

As a Junior Consultant, you'll play an active role in supporting client accounts and contributing to the delivery of integrated communications campaigns. Rather than observing from the sidelines, you'll gain practical experience across a range of disciplines while working closely with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.

The experience gained throughout the year will provide valuable insight into the communications industry while helping you build the confidence and skills needed to succeed in a fast-paced professional environment.

Learn from the best

Our team brings together expertise from a wide range of communications disciplines, including corporate PR, consumer PR, journalism, marketing, digital communications and multimedia.

We are passionate about developing future talent and are committed to helping Placement Students make the most of their year with us. Through ongoing mentoring, guidance and practical experience, you'll have the opportunity to learn from professionals who have built successful careers across the communications industry.

As your placement draws to a close, we'll also help you showcase the experience you've gained by supporting the development of your CV and preparing you for future graduate opportunities.

Don’t just take our word for it…

We take pride in helping students build the skills, confidence and experience needed to launch successful careers in the communications industry.

In fact, several of our former Placement Students have gone on to secure permanent roles within the agency, progressing their careers with Lighthouse after graduation.

Dearbhla Mac Donald, Senior Consultant and Placement 2019/2020

“During my placement, I worked across our entire portfolio of clients, which gave me a really good insight into what it’s like to work within the industry. When I graduated from Ulster University, I began at Lighthouse full time. I think a placement provides you with a great foundation for starting your career and it definitely opened up opportunities for me.”

Alana Watson, Consultant and Placement Student 2024/2025

“My favourite part of the job is the variety of clients and projects that we get to work on – no two jobs are the same. If I had to describe my placement in three words, I’d describe it as fast-paced, exciting, and beneficial. The biggest benefit of doing a placement is getting that real world experience – if you’re considering a placement, I’d say go for it. There are so many opportunities and experiences that you’ll get from it.”

Anna Smyth, Placement Student 2026/2027

“If I was to describe my placement, I’d say it’s been creative, innovative, and valuable. The Lighthouse team has been extremely supportive with my placement journey and has given me the opportunity to develop my skills, both personally and professionally. I would recommend anyone that is thinking of a placement to do it – it’s a great chance to apply your skills, build your connections, and get your foot in the door.”
