The Institute of Directors Northern Ireland (IoD NI) has expanded with the addition of two new jobs and the opening of a new office in Belfast city centre. Pictured with IoD NI chairman Ian Sheppard are, from left, Emma Jayne Mawhinney, Business Development Manager for Professional Development, and Dr Elaine O’Neill, who joins IoD NI as Programme Director. The new roles, which bring the overall number employed by the leading business organisation to five, are focused on growing the IoD’s learning and professional development offering. The IoD NI, which will continue to be headquartered at Riddel Hall, has also taken new space at the Scottish Provident Building on Donegall Square West to facilitate the expansion.

Business leaders will be urged to break through the ‘glass ceiling’ at the Institute of Directors Northern Ireland (IoD NI) 2018 Women’s Leadership Conference, at which best-selling author and TV presenter Liz Earle MBE will be guest speaker. Villagers in Kivala, Madagascar draw water from a new well, built thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff at Willis Insurance and Risk Management (Willis IRM). Staff at the Belfast broker raised more than £15,000 to support the Adsum Foundation’s work to install five fresh water wells in the Tsarakianja, Kivala and Tsirihimbolamena communities. Boreholes were dug and handpumps installed to provide clean water to around 700 people. The majority of money was raised in support of an attempt by Willis IRM Financial Services Director John Bedford to windsurf from Northern Ireland to Scotland in less than 90 minutes.

Alexander Campbell, right, from Donaghcloney has been named the first ever Northern Ireland Plant Operator of the Year by leading training provider Industry Training Services (ITS). He is congratulated by ITS Managing Director Brendan Crealey, centre, and Justin Carrigan of competition associates Plant and Civil Engineer. Portadown-based ITS had launched the search to find the best operators of excavator and telehandlers from across Northern Ireland. After negotiating a round of heats, finalists took to ITS’ specially designed course on its 10-acre site to take part in a series of timed challenges. Alexander (24) has been driving plant machinery for six years and works for Colin Campbell Contracts in Dromore.
