Statement in response to the announcement by DFI of planning permission being granted for the North South electricity interconnector

William Curry, Corporate and Commercial Partner at Arthur Cox, said:

“For businesses across a range of sectors in Northern Ireland, reliability and cost of electricity are key factors in a firm’s ability to compete on a global scale.

“The proposed development of a cross-border electricity line with the Republic of Ireland has been on the agenda for some time, and the granting of planning permission by the Department will be warmly welcomed by the business community.

“The announcement provides a boost for the local electricity market and for the large number of employers who will have been monitoring the situation closely.”
